Crates. A definite facet of our permanent infrastructure here, we use 2 varieties of crates only! They are:
Impact Collapsible Crates ( we have 10).
Gunner Crate (crash-tested & the only safe crate for auto/air travel).
Ex-Pens. Another required accoutrement. We love this 8-panel 40" ex-pen ...( & have several)...the drop-pin assembly means one can modify size & shape of the ex-pen...or just pin 2 panels together to bar off a kitchen door-way (for instance).
Rolled Leather Collars. Proper rolled leather Collie collars don't pull the mane we adore so...(nor do they get hung up in it)...we love Hund! We have several of their collars, leads & harnesses.
Other Collars & Tack. Gun Dog Supply sells a great, double-stitched leather collar with a brass ID plate & all brass hardware for $25.00. Leather is quite a bit nicer than nylon &/or bio-thane (which can become quite odiferous). For leashes, we DO go for bio-thane & we purchase them through Leerburg.
Dog Tags. We adore Red Dingo.
Stainless Steel Bowls. Made from USA-born steel, mercury & cadmium-free...we love Basis Pet!
Brushes & Combs. You'll be brushing daily...& you'll need the best brushes on the planet to condition the hair shaft...we love Mason Pearson & Kenchii. & for combs, Julia has always adored Aaronco, Resco & Chris Christensen!
Shampoo. We love Quadruped.
Food. We feed Orijen Amazing Grains Puppy dry food & Rockster every day to our infant Collies, they thrive on this. We then graduate them to a much less glamorous food: Victor Hi-Pro Classic...why? Because they thrive on it! In addition, we feed raw green tripe & beef/lamb organ blends every day. They also get 100% pure krill oil daily...& lots of apples, kale & cabbage. We give a TBS. of organic, raw honey daily to our puppies...this is an ancient, secret tonic used by Persian houndsmen on their Salukis...& it creates a fantastic gleam. Finally, we've used Nupro silver label for over 20 years & we are never without it...a dusting atop their kibble is great.
Chews. Antlers are safe & odor-free, hence our love of them! Moose antler owns the highest collagen content, therefore, we go that route! Mountain Dog has our loyalty.
Beds & Cots. We love Gorilla beds & Kuranda cots.
Dog Jackets. We've tried them all! We have loads of different Hurtta jackets...but, this particular species is the only dog coat we really recommend.
Books & Such. We've long been in love with the pioneering genius of the fantabulous herbalist Juliette de Bairacli Levy, her book The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog & Cat is our bible. Collie Concept by George Bobbee Roos is informative & funny! We recommend The Nature of Animal Healing by Dr. Martin Goldstein DVM; John Clifton's 2007 book Stop the Shots!: Are Vaccinations Killing Our Pets?; Shock to the System by Catherine O'Driscoll; Canine Form Follows Function by Joy Hartnagle-Taylor; & Athletic & Working Dog: Functional Anatomy & Biomechanics by Robert Gillette.
Fleas & Other Uninviteds. It cannot be stressed enough that chemicals are a major no-no for ALL dogs. They certainly provide immediate gratification in terms of eradication...but, simultaneous toxins to man & beast are lethal to man & beast. Imagine yourself taking a topical flea treatment every month for the rest of your life. Focus on elegant prevention by using Borax. As there are thousands of articles on how to utilise Borax for in-home flea eviction, we'll leave it to your online sleuthing technique.
Veterinary Supplies. You often don't need a prescription for items you've come to believe you need a prescription for! We love Revival Animal.
Dog Food Supply. Well, Chewy! Their customer service is divine & they carry our faves. Which are: Orijen, Acana, & Victor.
Laundry Detergent & Such. We use Zum & Rebel Green. Made without the ugly sisters (Sodium Laureate & Sodium Lauryl Sulfate), we avoid all things harmful to Mother Nature & her inhabitants whenever possible. Things such as dryer sheets are known toxins to dogs (& my olfactory system as well....) so keep that in mind...& for cleaning supplies will go with the aforementioned Zum, as well as Mrs. Meyers & their parent company, Caldrea.
The MDR1 Dangerous Drugs List. Always have "The List" on-hand (& paw)...though your Collie may be clear (as opposed to "carrier" or "affected" status) the herding breeds should always still be considered sensitive. Don't assume that your veterinarian is familiar with MDR1 drug sensitivities! Be certain that a copy of this document is a facet of your Collie's medical chart. If you're acquiring a puppy from Foxglove, you'll receive an Embark genetic panel associated with the puppy, relaying his/her status as to MDR1. Below is WSU's dangerous drugs list in relation to MDR1, tis the industry standard.
We always send our puppies into their new lives with a good supply of canned food, dry food, a blanket, loads of road-trip pupper towels, pee-pads, garbage bags, water, collar, leash, toys & health records.
