Wednesday morning (April 27th), Van-M Taffy Apple made clear her plans for whelping! Yayyyy!!! She relieved herself outdoors (as is her norm) & upon returning, grabbed a squeaky/crinkly piglet toy from the living room toy-stash, & commenced to hop back into her whelping box in the kitchen, gazing at me with the glazed & luminous expression that laboring mamas of all species seem to have. I made a pot of magical elixir (organic huehuetenango) & prepared for the wee ones. At 9:00 AM, Taffy popped out a tri-coloured girl with a half-collar...(she has come to be known as "The Climber"). Several hours of radio silence followed thereafter! Thus, a trip to Willamette Veterinary Hospital ensued...with the remaining 10 (!) puppies delivered via caesarian on Wednesday evening. This was necessary, as the situation was dystocia...though I religiously provided calcium in numerous forms... Of course, we're thrilled & thankful to the exceptional staff at WVH & for Taffy handling the disruption with her usual aplomb! "The Climber" hung out with me for the entire day...nursing away on a commercial goats milk puppy milk replacer & being attended to by myself, the other mama... Why the name? The Climber loves to climb the mountainous haunches of her dam...! We're thrilled with our litter of 11! Van-M Majority Rule x Van-M Taffy Apple |
