Whether farming 2 or 200, management is key...& the artful off-label chemical treatments in poultry & goats is always fascinating! Quite a lot of animal agriculture is based upon rather accelerated lifespans...steers ( 2 years), dairy cows ( 5 years), market pigs ( 6 months), lambs (7 months) & poultry ( a laying hen averages 1.5 years...a broiler...5 weeks)...therefore, standard cocktails of antibiotics, hormones & steroids are employed to maintain a standard of production that maximizes profit. Right? I'm not opposed to farming at all, I've had large flocks of sheep & larger herds of goats...hundreds during lambing & kidding season. I'm merely discussing eclectic management...& attempting to determine whether we should up our game, lower our game...or maintain status quo which is a hybrid blend of chemicals & herbs when needed & otherwise on a seasonal skedge. I'm sharing our protocol & photos of our darling Faverolles, Penedesencas & Black Copper Marans with all of our poultry friends. Our chickens just finished their coccidia prevention treatment...& now the adults are receiving off-label 1% ivermectin injectable given orally in water (4 ml. per gallon twice over 2 days)...after this, metronidazole....after that, off-label liquid fenbendazole. That's a lot of eggs thrown out! We do this seasonally... The goats just had off-label 1% injectable ivermectin given orally...1cc per 50 lbs. OK! Now back to the puppies!
